Become a Mentor

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years old
Must have two positive references (Ex. community leader or pastor)
Must undergo a background check (at our expense) that returns no criminal offenses within the past two years
Must complete our mentor training course
Must complete and submit the Mentor Application

Requirements

Entering students must be enrolled at Cambridge-South Dorchester
Must have guardian consent
Must be willing to attend our bi-weekly group workshops for at least one school semester
Must complete and submit the Student Application

Freshman-year (High School) interested students may apply for the mentoring program.
Applications are reviewed, and applicants are placed with a mentor that best fits a set of criteria (such as gender, personality, interests, etc.).
Bi-Weekly, the entire cohort meets together in-school. The workshop highlights important life skills based from our SEL Curriculum.
Each cohort also includes weekend trips, college visits, career fairs, various workshops, recreational activities and much more.
Each student is required to meet monthly one-on-one with their assigned staff member, and mentor (if they are matched with one).

Each mentor commits to a minimum of a full school year of mentorship.
Mentors are placed with the best-fit match for a mentee and begin with them during their freshman year (unless otherwise assigned).
The same match will remain until graduation, and each year mentors have the option of adding an additional freshman to their load. (this means that the max number of students that one mentor would have at a time would be four, but ideally, the relationships that are formed will still last beyond graduation).
Mentors are encouraged to attend out-of-school time activities, and one-on-one mentoring sessions.
Mentoring a student can be as simple as sending an encouraging text to your assigned student.
